The other players: witnesses and co-conspirators

A hostile witness and a silent co-conspirator are the two ways a guilty accused buys acquittal today. Both are priced here under the current scenario.

The market for hostile witnesses

A witness turns hostile only if what the accused will pay, or threaten, exceeds what the witness expects to lose. Item E2 removes most of the accused's willingness to pay (the earlier recording stands as evidence); Items F1–F4 raise the witness's expected loss; Item V4 neutralises threats.

The conspiracy ladder (Items C1, C2, D4, R3)

Expected cost to each co-conspirator by position in the race to cooperate, against the cost of collective silence. Silence is stable only if no one gains by defecting first.
